Black Combe Runners have finalised their Fell Championship counter races for the year, in which members’ best five results out of the 12 races, with at least one in each race category, will count.

The list of the events are are follows: Causey Pike (short, March 21), Coledale Horseshoe (medium March 28), Coniston (medium, May 2), Duddon Valley (long, May 30), Blencathra (medium, July4, which is also a National Championship counter event), Old Crown Round (long, July 18), Turner Landscape (medium, August 8), Three Shires (long, September 19), Orton, near Tebay (short, September 26), Langdale Horseshoe (long, October 10), The Screes (short, October 31), and Dunnerdale (short, November 14).

The club’s own organised Black Combe Fell Race (8.2 miles, 3,281ft ascent) on Saturday, March 7 kicks off the Lakes Grand Prix series.

Race organisers are encouraging people to car share due to limited parking being available and locally-based runners can come by train to Silecroft, as the station is two minutes walk from registration and close to the start.

The Wansfell fell race (over 2.5 miles and a 1,500ft ascent) at Ambleside attracted a record entry of runners in dull and cold conditions, and sole BCR participant Steve Wathall clocked a time of 31:16 in a race won by Ambleside AC’s Jack Wright and Sarah McCormack in 20:47 and 22:55, respectively.
