There was never any doubt in Matt Platt's mind that he wanted to see out the season with Barrow AFC, with the dominating centre-back able to continue to help the Bluebirds in their push for National League promotion.

The intention was for Platt to stay for the campaign when he first joined in September, but his form at the back allegedly attracted the interest of several Football League clubs.

Thankfully for AFC, it was confirmed last week that the 22-year-old would be remaining at Holker Street, along with fellow Blackburn loanee Tom White, for the remainder of what has turned into one of the club's most exciting season in years.

Platt said: "I had no doubts that I wanted to stay here. I spoke to my agent, I spoke to the gaffer as well and he obviously told me they wanted to keep me and that was all I need to hear.

"I always wanted to stay until the end of the season because I'd really enjoyed my time up until January.

"I get on with the lads really well and I was really enjoying my football, so there was never really any intentions of going anywhere else."

While Barrow have received plenty of praise for their attacking prowess - hardly surprising with them winning 7-0 twice this month - their defence perhaps hasn't got the praise it deserves.

Their 2-0 win against Bromley last Saturday brought up their fifth clean sheet in succession - they still haven't conceded in 2020 - and the Bluebirds have the joint-best defensive in the division, to go along with them being its top scorers.

Before Platt's debut against Hartlepool on September 3, they had conceded 15 goals in eight games, which is the exact same number as what they have let in during his 21 league appearances since.

Platt said: "As we say, we defend as a team and we attack as a team. We might not get as much credit, but it's a team game, at the end of the day.

"We're doing well as a back three, but it's all down to the rest of the team, how hard the midfielders work, how hard the front men work to stop the opposition from counter-attacking with any quality.

"A lot of the credit should go to the midfielders and attackers for the way they help the back three."

That backline is set to get its sternest test since the turn of the year when Barrow face Boreham Wood at Meadow Park tomorrow, as their hosts' form almost matches up to that of Ian Evatt's league leaders.

"We know they're a good team - we knew that from the home game - and they pose threats going forward," Platt said.

"It's going to be a tough game because they've been doing well recently. Hopefully if we stick to how we play I think we should have enough to get the result."
