Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt has held up midfielder Jason Taylor as a great example to the younger players at the club, with him finally cleared to play without his protective mask.

Taylor is likely to play a key role in the middle of the park again in the Bluebirds' match at Boreham Wood tomorrow, which will be his first 'bare-faced' since he fractured his cheekbone and eye socket against Sutton United back in November.

It's not the only setback the 32-year-old has had to persevere through in recent months, with him having to get back up to full strength after being struck down with pneumonia last month.

Evatt said: "Jason is, first and foremost, a fantastic pro who sets the right examples on the training pitch in how he conducts himself and how he lives his life.

"He's a fantastic senior player and we've got some very good senior players - him and Sam [Hird] set the right examples to the younger ones.

"He also has so much to offer as a player as well and he offers us something different. We have four fantastic midfield players and Jason is the one that gives us that security and does the ugly side of the game really well.

"John [Rooney] is obviously very technical, but scores a hell of a lot of goals, Tom White can build attacks better than the others in terms of how he receives the ball in tight areas and Lewis [Hardcastle] has got that midfield drive, where he can drive past opponents."

Evatt will again have the tough choice of picking three from four against the Wood, as he has almost a fully-fit squad to pick from against Barrow's in-form hosts at Meadow Park, with the one exception being club captain Josh Granite, who is recovering from a knee injury

"Everybody is pretty much fully-fit - Josh Granite is back in training now," Evatt said.

"He won't be ready for a couple of weeks to be back involved in matchday squads, but he's back training, and everyone else is fully-fit and raring to go."
