Walney Island weren't expecting to find themselves two points clear at the top of Division Two of the West Lancashire League ahead of tomorrow's trip to Mill Hill St Peters.

The Tummerhill outfit were able to bounce back from their defeat against Rossendale that closed the gap down to goal difference by beating Burnley United 2-1, while their fellow promotion contenders were surprisingly held to a draw at home to Freckleton.

With their hosts languishing in the lower half of the table, Walney will be expected to kick on and put themselves another step nearer to Division One.

Our other three teams in that division are also on the road, with Furness Cavaliers heading to Charnock Richard reserves, Dalton United going to Chipping and Furness Rovers having a tough test at Freckleton.

Holker Old Boys ended their six-match losing streak in the North West Counties League in spectacular fashion by hammering Daisy Hill 8-0 last Saturday and will try to prove that was no fluke at Nelson.

In the Furness Premier League, Kirkby United, who have three games in hand, will look to close the gap on leaders Vickerstown reserves to four points, if they beat them at Park Vale.

There are four first round ties in the Furness Junior Cup taking place tomorrow, with Soccer Bar v Bridge United undoubtedly the pick of them.
