There will be a familiar face in a red shirt at Craven Park tomorrow, with scrum-half Lewis Charnock returning to his old stomping ground with Oldham for their friendly at Barrow Raiders.

The Raiders wanted to retain Charnock for the 2020 season, but he decided to remain in the Betfred Championship by accepting an offer from the Roughyeds, bringing to an end three seasons with the club.

He didn't always enjoy the best of luck whilst with Barrow, missing almost the whole of the 2018 campaign with a serious shoulder injury, and his final year with them was ended prematurely by a fractured jaw.

He also had to serve an eight-game ban for a dangerous tackle on Sheffield's James Glover midway through last season and his former boss Paul Crarey is hoping a change of scene will bring a change of luck.

The Raiders head coach said: "The way he plays the game is very physical. He carries the ball a lot and, as a small half-back, you pay the price for that.

"Sometimes pivots play in their dinner suit and others play at the line. Lewis did his shoulder, that was all pinned, he broke his jaw and then he got that ban, so he's had a real tough time.

"We wanted to keep him, but we couldn't pay the money that he's on. He's a good kid, Lewis, very professional in his approach and he'll be a good addition for them."

* Barrow Raiders are introducing a new ticketing system at the Duke Street entrances to Craven Park for the match against Oldham and supporters are encouraged to arrive a little earlier than normal in order to purchase a ticket from the new ticket office which can then be presented at the turnstile. Alternatively, tickets can be pre-purchased from www.barrowevents.co.uk.
