Barrow Island will find out their first opponents in the Challenge Cup in 15 years when the draw for the first round of the Challenge Cup is made this evening.

Island play in the Second Division of the National Conference League, making them the highest-ranked out of the eight amateur rugby league teams from the area.

Their last appearance in the Challenge Cup came back in 2005, when they reached the second round after beating Skirlaugh 16-12 before losing 14-10 to Elland.

They are one of two Cumbrian teams entering at the first round, along with Distington, who did well in reaching the third round last season before eventually falling to League One side Keighley Cougars.

Amongst the 44 amateur and community teams who will be taking part will be debutants Bedford Tigers, Jarrow Vikings, Rhondda Outlaws, Sherwood Wolf Hunt and Upton.

As well as Rhondda, the Celtic nations will be represented by Irish champions Longhorns, the Edinburgh Eagles from Scotland and Welsh side Torfaen Tigers.

Serbians Red Star Belgrade, who faced Millom in the first round last season, will not be in the competition this season due to the demands on their players.

The draw will take place at Yorkshire Men's League champions Beverley at 6:30pm this evening and will be streamed live on the BBC Sport website.
