To say Georgia Stanway's 100th appearance for Manchester City was eventful is an understatement, as the Barrovian scored twice before being sent off in her side's 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United yesterday.

The 20-year-old's two strikes in the first half were superbly taken and her first in this season's Women's Super League, but she blotted her copybook after the break after picking up two yellow cards.

The second was for an innocuous, but needless, challenge and means the Women's Rising Star from the recent North West Football Awards will miss Thursday's League Cup match against Everton through suspension.

City dominated throughout and went ahead after 11 minutes when Ellen White rammed in the rebound after Jill Scott's header from a corner had been cleared off the line by Gilly Flaherty.

The hosts then took the game away from the Hammers with three goals in the space of seven minutes, with Stanway grabbing the first two.

After driving through the midfield and passing to Scott, she received the ball back from White before finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Six minutes later, Stanway found the net again when she ran on to Janine Beckie's lay-off and beat West Ham goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse via the post.

It was soon 4-0 when Lauren Hemp was left in all kinds of space after being set up by Scott before White bent a brilliant shot against the bar three minutes into the second half.

Stanway turned provider for City's fifth when she laid the ball off for Tessa Wullaert to finish in style, but she then saw red after 72 minutes when she picked up her second booking for a late challenge on Hammers striker Adriana Leon.
