Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt was arguably the calmest man at Meadow Lane after witnessing his players put Notts County to the sword in what was a superb 3-0 victory.

Goals by Dior Angus, John Rooney and Jack Hindle rewarded what was yet another dominant performance by the Bluebirds, who showed no signs of ring rust in what was their first game for two weeks.

If anything, the margin of victory could have been higher, after the visitors passed up several chances before finally grabbing the third goal their display deserved.

It was AFC’s tenth win in 11 league games, which put them top of the National League table ahead of Yeovil’s late kick-off against Dover, and it’s that run of form that was the reason for Evatt not being more excitable.

“I’m pleased, definitely,” he said. “I just said to the players that it’s weird that I’m calm and I’m calm because I now expect that from them.

“Their work ethic, the quality they show on the ball is excellent. We have a very strong squad, we’ve had two weeks to prepare and we knew where we needed to put pressure on the ball and where we could hurt them.

“We utilised the game plan to a tee – there wasn’t any mistakes, really. We won the ball back high up the pitch and we knew with our front two we could hurt the opposition and we did that.

“The only disappointing thing – and this is me nit-picking – is we could have been four or five up and put the game to bed earlier with our final decision [being better].

“But I’m super proud of them and it’s weird that I am calm because people outside of Barrow and outside of my dressing room won’t expect that from us and look at that result and think ‘wow, what a performance.’”
