Cumbria under-19s almost pulled off a victory over Yorkshire, who were in the driving seat before just about holding on to win 22-20 at Millom.

After last week's hefty 56-12 loss at Lancashire, it was always going to be an uphill struggle and though the home side went into an early 6-0 lead it was the Tykes who were to dominate until the hour mark.

Millom's Ethan Bickerdike brought some early cheers from the fans on a very cold day when he went in for a neat try, which Kells' Jack Kellett converted.

Yorkshire soon came into the frame going in for an unconverted try from Callum Burden making it 6-4 in favour of the Cumbrians.

However the visitors soon took a firm grip of matter going ahead with a try from Nigel Green ad extended their lead to 16-6 on 38 minutes with a try from Kia Fowler.

Sixteen minutes into the second half, Burden went in for his second of the afternoon, which was converted by Brookes for 6-22.

However, Dalton's Evan Jones started the Cumbria comeback with a try and he was soon followed over the whitewash by Kells' Jacob Johnson, although both were unconverted, which proved costly at the final whistle.

Yorkshire were reeling and good play from the home side enabled Dalton's Jack Stephenson to weave his way through to score, but last pressure failed to produce points as Yorkshire held out.
