Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt has dedicated last Saturday's 1-0 victory to a long-time supporter who gave the players a winning bonus of her own.

Margaret Cooksey may be advancing in years, but her dedication to following the Bluebirds remains undiminished, with her travelling down to Devon to watch them at Torquay United on October 26 and then to Dagenham & Redbridge, in East London, three days later.

The grandmother of featherweight boxer Ross Cooksey made a point of visiting Evatt before the match against Sutton at Holker Street and after Josh Kay's deflected strike had secured all three points, the AFC boss made sure to single Margaret out.

Evatt said: "Margaret sits just behind me in the stadium. She's in her mid-80s and she came and knocked on my door before the game, saying she'd been to Torquay and Dagenham.

"To travel across the country and follow your team like that, especially at her age, is fantastic and we appreciate it so much, but she took £20 out of her purse and said 'I'd like you to give that to the players and buy them something nice and treat them.'

"That really touched home to me and touched home to the players and that one was for Margaret.

"Fans like her make the players want to perform the way they did. I'm so proud of the football club at the minute and long may it continue."
