Barrow Friday League snooker leaders British Legion A Club went up against the Barrow Football Supporters Club in the latest round of fixtures and recorded a 2-1 victory.

John Tyerman won the first game by surging ahead on the colours after a scrappy 15 reds, eventually taking it on the pink 64-44 against top man Harry Bateman.

Steve Redpath had a 20 break in his game against Dave Simpson but not enough for the win, as Simpson won it on the black ball 54-45 in a very close contest.

Jimmy Christie got a point back for the Soccer Bar after some very good potting on the colours to win comfortably 64-35 against Billy Burns.

British Legion kept up with the pace with a 2-1 away win against Vickerstown Cricket Club, with Ray Gardner taking the first game of the night, although he had to endure a black ball finish against Lee Jefferson before winning 53 45.

Jack Arnold took the second with a 49-31 scoreline against Stuart Benson before the final game went the way of the Cricketers’ Jimmy Allen. Legion’s top man Mike Smith needed only one ball for game but Allen put him in a good snooker, which he missed, leaving Allen to clear up, taking the blue, pink and black to pinch the game 47-45.

There was an excellent 3-0 victory for the Navy Club against Roose Cons, with Joe O’Leary winning the first game by a narrow margin over Dave Kewley 50-46.

Dave Simpson potted well with a series of small breaks to win convincingly against Nick Wilkes, while Barry Crawford was most fortunate in his win over Lee Majors, fluking the blue and the pink in taking the game 43-24.

The first billiard game between Vickerstown CC and British Legion was played earlier in the week and ended with a 100-90 victory for Peter Scott over Alf Carruthers.

Kevin Quinn and David Holmes played the second game with Kevin passing the winning post first in a close contest 100-90. Gareth Willis, with the help of a 20 break pulled a point back for the home side.

Steve Hetherington took first blood for the Soccer Bar against British Legion A in a nip-and-tuck game against Jimmy Wilson 100-95. Bateman won a very scrappy game before Paul Fieldhouse claimed a 2-1 victory for Legion A side despite a late fight back from Denis Plant to win 100-93.

Taking two games away against the Roose Cons were the Navy Club. Geoff Turner gave Peter Roberts little chance with constant small breaks to win 100-49.

Roose came back with Rob Chissim coming from behind to beat Ian Large 100-81, but Navy’s captain John Clamp made it 2-1 with a good, but long, game against Mike Irving.
