The boardroom is a really busy place at the moment and we are all delighted that Hazel Robinson has returned to the fold. She will be a real asset in driving the improvements we desire.

Running the club is like trying to run multiple businesses and all on a part-time voluntary basis; it's tough to achieve all that we want to.

To give you an idea of some of the activities we are currently undertaking I'll try to list a few:

We are currently working with our kit manufacturer on a design for next season. I must confess I've delegated the task and won't interfere but I've always liked Barrow in blue with a white V.

With the kit must come sponsors and we have been busy ensuring that either all of last year's sponsors renew or that we manage to fill the gaps before the deadline.

We hope to get the shirts in our shop well before the Christmas rush. Somehow we fail this every year but I am assured the turnaround time is minimal. The players' training and travel-wear also needs ordering and sponsoring so commercially we are very busy.

Moving on to events, we have just had a successful 80s night at Cloud Nine, we take the ticket money and they take the bar sales. It's win-win for both us and one of our sponsors.

The night was so good they've given us two nights between Christmas and New Year so keep your diaries free for a great night out on December 28 and 29.

We also have a Sportsman's Dinner on Friday, October 25 at Hawcoat Park featuring guest speaker Robbie Hunter-Paul and comedian Mike Maguire.

Tickets are sure to go fast and we need that support to keep the income ticking over in our off-season. The fixed bills don't go away just because we stop playing and players now get contractual pay 12 months of the year.

We are looking at how we connect with the public and the amount of news we give our supporters. I have asked media director Jack Fawcett to give me a plan of what is possible and then we will look to what we can realistically achieve with our available resource.

Raiders TV will be part of that scrutiny and I think we have to be honest with the public about our limited resource, but what we do provide has to be reliable.

There is certainly a great desire to stream the Raiders games on our travels next season. There is nothing more than I'd like than a full Raiders Bar helping to fund the club for those that can't make some of the long journeys.

Ground maintenance is never-ending. We are currently removing asbestos from under the stand with the help of one of our best sponsors, Peter Schofield.

You may also have seen some seating removed in the Grandstand and we are addressing a leak that is affecting our boardroom area. We also have a string of actions from the council from recent visits. I don't envy but thank whole-heartedly Joe Slater and his team.

In writing this article I've been referencing our action plan and realise that I've run out of words before I have even scratched the surface. Needless to say it really is tough to achieve what we really want to.
