There was another big twist in the race for promotion from Division One of the Cumbria Cricket League last Saturday, as Haverigg regained their place at the top of the table after beating Ulverston by 92 runs.

Haverigg won the toss and chose to bat at Priory Road and were grateful for Glen Chesher's 38, and 34 from James Parminter as they were restricted to 128-8 in their 50 overs, as Shiven Perera took 3-34 for Ulverston.

The hosts' reply was something of a disaster, however, as they lost wickets quickly and regularly to be all out for just 36 in the 17th over.

Haverigg's bowlers proved to be unstoppable as 5-15 from Tomas Hawdon and 3-19 from Lahiru Jayakody meant the visitors had an early trip home.

The Villagers are now four points clear at the division's summit, after previous leaders Furness 2nd XI were defeated by four wickets against Kirkby in a low-scoring encounter at Furness Park.

Friday's downpour had left a tricky pitch and, batting first, the home team could not cope with the Kirkby attack as they were bowled out for 56, with Matthew Bruce running riot with 4-11 and Michael Fugler with 4-26.

Kirkby also found batting difficult, but 29 not out from Rob Fugler and 20 from Bruce allowed the visitors to limp over their target in 22 overs.

The bowlers were also on top at Pennington Lane, where Lindal Moor 2nd XI saw off bottom side Vickerstown by four wickets.

Batting first, Vickerstown lost their top four batsmen for only ten runs and only Mark Humphries with 24 not out and skipper Gareth Benson's 23 provided any resistance, as the Walney side were all out for 73 with Lindal's Lee Hogg (5-24) and Jos Edwards (3-3) doing the damage.

The Moor also started badly and lost wickets regularly but won in the 23rd over, even though Craig Daly (3-20) and Benson (3-39) nearly made a different result.

Hawcoat Park's faint promotion hopes faded further with a seven-wicket defeat at Workington 2nd XI in a match where they were only able to field eight players.

Opener Ross Parke was left unbeaten on 47 as Hawcoat were bowled out for 117 and Workington were always in control as 40 not out from wicketkeeper Sam Bates helped them to victory in the 35th over.

Elsewhere, Seascale won a low-scoring thriller against Cockermouth 2nd XI by six runs thanks to seven wickets from Adam Brown.

Seascale were bowled out for 102, as Andrew Dodds took 4-37 for Cockermouth, who were then all out for 96 in reply, as Brown took amazing figures of 7-30.
