The rapidly-growing junior section at the LOBO Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club is producing success, as all three of their youngsters who competed in the recent Junior World Championships came away with medals.
The Championships took place at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton, where the trio all did their club, who train at Shore Street in Barrow very proud indeed
Nine-year-old Hayden Reay, who is the son of head coach at the club Mike, beat the European champion on the way to winning silver in the Grey Junior -24kg categoryand facedt East Coast JJA’s Roman Verhoeven in the final.
There was also a silver for Summer Bentley, 14, in the Grey Teen -50kg, where she just lost out against gold medalist Stella James of Stafford Fight Factory.
Summer’s six-year-old sister Rosie took bronze in the White Pee Wee -24kg.
Mike Reay said: “The kids’ club is very new - it’s not even a year old at the moment - so it’s growing massively even though it’s still in its infancy.
“We’re looking to do the European Championships in September and hopefully take a larger team down.
“Right now, we’ve got around 35-40 kids in the club so far.”
LOBO BJJ are currently in the middle of a six-week Holiday Training Camp for kids aged 5-12.
