Barrow AFC have signed midfielder Oliver Greaves on loan from Premier League club Sheffield United for the 2019/20 season.

Greaves has had success playing in a number of attacking roles in the Blades' under-23 team and was able to get back into his stride last season after a serious injury cut short his 2017/18 campaign.

He was at the Bluebirds' Hopwood Hall training base yesterday, as the squad began pre-season training, ahead of their first friendly against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

AFC manager Ian Evatt will be hoping Greaves will prove to be as big a success as previous loan signings from the Bramall Lane club Tyler Smith and Rhys Norrington-Davies.

Barrow have now made seven new signings this summer, as they look to make a real push for the play-off places in the National League in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, former AFC striker Jacob Blyth has found a new club after he signed for League Two side Macclesfield Town on a one-year deal.

The 26-year departed Holker Street after one season with the club, which came after a year out of the game due to a multitude of injuries.

After coming back from a dislocated shoulder in pre-season, Blyth went on to score three goals in 24 appearances for the Bluebirds, including a stoppage-time winner against Salford City.
