In last week’s Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ League, clubs entered the back half of the fixtures.
In Division One, Hawcoat Park held a 27 point lead over nearest rivals Co-op at the halfway mark, but this increased to 32 points after they whitewashed strugglers Dalton CC 10-0. The win included three single-figure winners in David Hird and the two Bobs; Parkinson and Stewart.
The Co-op, however, were held to a 5-5 draw at Walney Park against a side who surprisingly find themselves at the wrong end of the table. Despite winning five of the eight games, Co-op failed to claim the aggregate, this going to the home side mainly due to Brian Usher winning 21-5 along with a 21-9 win for Stan Halesworth.
Roose proved too strong for visiting Kirkby, winning 9-1 with single-figure wins coming from Chris Corkill, Mike Watt and Kevin Boyd.
Another game to produce a 9-1 home win was the one between King Alfred and Barrow Island with Harry Dagger’s win preventing a whitewash. For the Alfred there were wins for Tony George, Ray Holmes and Alan Mason.
Co-op A shared the games with Ulverston Cons with the Cons winning the aggregate and the game 7-4. The pick of the individual games saw Dave Nicholson winning 21-6 for the Cons whilst Dave Benn responded with a 21-7 win for Co-op A.
Lindal maintained third place following an 8-2 win over Salthouse, with Dave Bennett (21-7), Chas Crellin (21-9) and Brian Andrews all impressing.
In Division Two, leaders Glaxo remain unbeaten after an 8-2 victory over King Alfred A. They had three 21-6 winners in Mike Askew, Rod Lewis and Terry Wright.
With Walney Park A not playing, West Mount took the opportunity to go second, as they where too strong for bottom side Salthouse, who they beat 10-1.
Meanwhile, their A team were beating Roose A 9-1 at the Mount. In fairness to Roose, the scoreline does not do justice to Roose as they lost three games by a single chalk so it was a case of what might have been.
Second-bottom Walney Park B picked up their fourth win of the season in beating Co-op B 7-3 at the Park with Tommy Managh’s 21-8 the pick of the winners. The all-Walney affair resulted in a 7-3 win West Shore A against North Scale.
