Hindpool Tigers under-14s were the biggest winners out of our junior rugby league teams last weekend as they hammered Ulverston 74-4 in the Barrow & District Youth League.

Ryan Kyte finished with a personal haul of 30 points, which included two of Hindpool’s 13 tries, 11 of which he converted.

Luke Buchanan was named man of the match after bagging a hat-trick, while the rest of the rampant hosts’ tries came from Harley Bradley-Allan, Lennon Hartle, Ethan Dodds and Jack Osman.

In the quarter finals of the North West Youth Cup, a depleted Walney Central under-16s succumbed to a 36-14 defeat at home to Oldham St Annes.

The Cents were missing seven key players due to injury and unavailability, but they held their own despite only having one sub and trailed only 10-4 at half-time and were still 14-10 behind going into the last 20 minutes.

However, a shoulder injury and a broken thumb to two Walney players put paid to their chances, as Oldham finally pulled away.

Cents’ tries came from Finley Goodings, Zac Whitehead and Matty Henderson, plus a conversion from Luke Broadbent.

Goodings actually played in the game just a day after completing the Coniston to Barrow walk.

Askam under-15s progressed in the North West Counties Shield by winning 38-18 at Belle Vue Bees, while Roose Pioneers were given a home walkover after Leigh Miners Rangers Golds couldn’t raise a team.

The two sides will play each other in the semi-finals of the competition, which take place on Sunday, June 9.
