A SECOND-half comeback earned Millom a share of the spoils as they drew 12-12 at home to Oldham St Annes in National Conference League Division Three, writes Elliot Burrow.

On a day when the rest of the amateur games in the area were postponed, the pitch at Coronation Field held up well and both sides were seeking to get back to winning way.

The game was deadlocked until the 30th minute when Millom opened the scoring with a sweeping passing move which saw Niall Harris dive over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Ross Brookes had a chance to extend their lead before half-time with a penalty goal attempt, but the wind intervened and swept the kick wide.

The second half was much more lively and Oldham started the stronger of the sides, making their mark on the game early on when Joe Hartley pounced onto a kick into Millom’s in-goal which to score. Matt Whitehead converted to put St Annes in front.

They scored again five minutes later when Oldham’s man of the match Chris Yarwood barged his way over the line from close range. Whitehead had no problems converting, and Oldham had turned the game on its head to led 12-4.

However, on 74 minutes the Woolybacks managed to get themselves back into the game when Hanley Dawson dived over in the corner to offer some hope.

They completed the comeback 2 minutes before time when Jordan Moyes scored out wide after a magnificent break from Millom’s man of the match Jonathon Hodgson.

Millom had a chance to take the win when Oldham were penalised for obstruction, but Brookes’ penalty goal attempt was held up by the wind again and fell short.
