DALTON under-14s maintained their 100 per cent record and moved three points clear at the top of the South Lakes Girls League after a hard-earned 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Kendal United.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first half and both created chances, but the two goal keepers were in good form.

Dalton, however, made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time with a well-taken goal from Kate McKenna.

Kendal were determined not to lose their place at the top of the league and pushed for an equaliser, but an impressive player-of-the match performance from Hannah Briggs in defence ensured they did not get on the score sheet.

Dalton’s second came with 15 minutes remaining when the very lively Jaya Brown was on hand to tap in after some good build-up play.

This demoralised Kendal, who were fortunate not to concede more goals in the final few minutes.

Next up for Dalton is the Lancashire County Youth Cup semi-final this Sunday away to Hindley, with the winners facing either Blackpool or Preston North End.

Elsewhere in the division, Dalton’s under-13s were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Milnthorpe.

In the under-12s competition, Barrow Celtic under-11s recorded a 2-0 win away to Wattsfield United, but Celtic’s under-12s were beaten 6-2 at home to Wattsfield.
