LEE Greenwood is trying to change the mentality of the Dewsbury Rams squad after taking over as head coach in the off-season.

The former England international three-quarter was appointed last October, having previously coached Gloucestershire All Golds, and saw his side secure their first Betfred Championship win under him when they beat Swinton Lions 38-24 at home last week.

Although he was pleased with the result, Greenwood still targeted areas for improvement ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Barrow Raiders – particularly when it comes to allowing opponents back into the match after Swinton ran in several tries late on.

“I don’t want my team to fall into whatever ways they were used to in the past, I want us to be better than that,” Greenwood told the club’s official website.

“You say there are a lot of new faces which there are but then there are a lot of lads who have been here previously as well.

“I think it’s a mentality change that needs to happen, it’s the mental side of things we need to improve on.”

Greenwood’s approach has already found favour with the squad and new recruit Simon Brown, who joined from Sheffield Eagles, is impressed with the different ideas he has brought to the Rams.

The half-back has already seen the impact it has had on the field and knows they must keep putting in the hard yards in training.

“We train hard and we like to be the best working team if we can,” Brown told the club’s official website.

“If you’re coming to Dewsbury you should know it won’t be pretty and it will be tough.

“That is something we are trying to install; he (Greenwood) is bringing in some new philosophies from where I’ve been at previous clubs.

“When we are in control of teams you can tell that they do work, we just have to fasten up on those loose assets a bit and we will be there or there about’s.”
