Enthusiastic members of the Westmorland Motor Club are planning to revive the Barbon Speed Hill Climb for Motorcycles.
The date has been set for Saturday May11.
The Event at Barbon Manor near Kirkby Lonsdale was always a must for local fans giving them a chance to see racing machines in action up the half-mile course.
Many local riders including myself, John Lishman, many others and Frank Whiteway competed there in the 60s and 70s, and in later years our own TT star Dan Stewart and TT legend John McGuinness raced there too.
Frank took one of the early TR 250cc Crooks Suzukis along in 1967 and set fastest time of the day, won his class and scooped up all the main silverware upsetting the established hill climb “stars” and went on to win the 250 Manx GP on the same machine the following year.
While the course has been in use from 1950 to date, motorcycles last raced there in 2011.
This will be a great addition to the Leighton Hall Speed Hill Climb held in September. Looking forward to this one, will keep you updated as things progress.
