GEORGIA Stanway’s 11th goal of the season could not help Manchester City secure all three points as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Chelsea in the FA Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The Barrow hot-shot had helped put City two goals up inside the first 25 minutes, with team-mate Tessa Wullaert opening the scoring in the 12th minute.

Stanway then put the hosts further in front at the Manchester Regional Arena, firing home a low shot from just outside the penalty area after being teed up by Wullaert.

However, they were pegged back after the break thanks to two goals from Chelsea’s South Korean star Ji So-yun, with the equaliser coming in the 89th minute.

City stay top of the FA WSL despite the draw, although second-placed Arsenal are just two points behind with a game in hand.

Stanway and her City team-mates will also battle it out with Arsenal for the first piece of silverware this season a week on Saturday when the sides meet in the Continental Cup final.

City reached the decider of the competition with a 2-0 win over Chelsea, with Stanway involved but both goals coming from her strike-partner Nikita Parris.

Meanwhile, Arsenal qualified for the final after edging out FA Women’s Championship side Manchester United 2-1.

The match takes place at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on February 23, kicking off at 12.15pm.
