TONY Mason showed his class in the latest round of Barrow Individual Snooker League matches with a string of good breaks as he whitewashed Anthony Atkinson in their return fixture.

The first match saw Mason take a 4-2 win, making breaks of 39 and 37. However, Atkinson, who made a highest break of 32, was unlucky not to draw the match after his opponent won the final frame.

It was all Mason in the return though as he wrapped up a 6-0 win, knocking in runs of 33,33,35,39,43,56 and 54.

He also had the chance to eclipse Danny Macdonald’s highest break mark of 101, but suffered a kick while on 99 and just missed out on the century.

Macdonald was up against Paul Deelay in his latest matches and there was nothing to split them as both fixtures ended 3-3.

Breaks of 44 and 99 for Macdonald were the highlight of the first match, followed by Deelay keeping it tight in the second encounter.

Neil Aspinall is all but certain of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition after winning both legs of his double-header with defending champion Martin McDonald at the Red River Club.

Aspinall kept his impressive season going with wins of 4-2 and 5-1 over McDonald, which included him making breaks of 20, 29, 25 and 35.

Another player closing in on a place in the knockout rounds is Tom Millington, who scored a 5-1 win over league newcomer Brad Elliot.

Millington cemented his place in second in the league standings thanks to breaks of 48 and 63, and one more win will make certain of his qualification for the next round.

Matty Hill is in with a good chance of making the top three in his group after his 6-0 victory over Jamie Thompson.

A highest break of 55, plus two scores of 30 and runs of 40 and 41, ensured a comprehensive win for Hill.

Alan Eaton recorded back-to-back 4-2 victories in his matches with Gaz Barbour, the highlight for Eaton being a break of 50 in the return game.

Dale McLean has been busy playing several catch-up matches, starting with a pair of 6-0 wins over Jordan Park.

There was little of note in the first match, but a string of 30-plus breaks ensured McLean took all the points on offer.

He then beat Deelay 4-2 and saw off Elliot 6-0 after drawing their first meeting 3-3, making three 30-plus breaks to put himself in with a good chance of qualifying.

The other catch-up match saw Elliot beat Park 4-2 after drawing the first meeting 3-3.
