Barrow AFC can now head into tonight’s match against Wrexham at Holker Street with their confidence restored, according to manager Ian Evatt.

The Bluebirds picked up arguably their most important three points of the season by defeating Aldershot Town 2-0 last Saturday to bring to an end a six-game losing streak

It lifted them five points clear of the National League relegation zone and has taken some of the pressure off their home clash against the Dragons, who are riding high in the table, although they did lose 3-1 at home to leaders Leyton Orient during the weekend.

Evatt was always confident his side would eventually come good during what was his first dodgy run as AFC boss and is looking for them to produce a repeat performance.

Evatt said: “Saturday was a massive confidence boost. You didn’t see us at our best in possession, but sometimes when the results have been going the way they’ve gone, you have to roll your sleeves up and muck in. You need to put in a big team effort to try and keep the opposition out and we did that really well - bar a couple of shots from distance they didn’t have too many chances.

“We were disciplined, we were organised, we put our foot in when we needed to, we cleared our lines and the effort and the determination and the work ethic in the squad has been outstanding.

“A lot of people might have started being worried about performances and results, but I wasn’t because I see them day in, day out and I see the quality that they’ve got.

“Every team at some point has a blip, we’ve had ours hopefully and now we can look up the table rather than down and go again on Tuesday.”

The match at Aldershot was Barrow’s first since the takeover of the club was completed and Evatt wished to dedicate the result to chairman Paul Hornby for the painless way in which the change of ownership was executed.

“Paul and the rest of the directors have really mucked in together because they’ve enabled us to concentrate on the football side of things, which has been important,” he said.

“There’s been no worries for us off the pitch and that’s down to him and the rest of the team, so thanks to them, this result is for them and hopefully now we can progress this club forward.

“It’s a fantastic football club and I’m delighted to be manager of it.”
