There wasn’t too much to feel positive about Barrow AFC’s 3-0 defeat at home to Eastleigh last Saturday, but the performance of debutant Kemy Agustien was at least of some promise.

Agustien joined the Bluebirds on a deal until January last Thursday after the 32-year-old impressed manager Ian Evatt during a trial period with the club.

He arrived at Holker Street with plenty of experience of playing at a higher level in his career, which includes two seasons of playing in the Premier League with Swansea City.

AFC fans got a first glimpse of their new arrival on what was a disappointing afternoon for the team against the Spitfires, but Agustien was able to look reasonably sharp in the full 90 minutes he played, despite being short of match practice.

Barrow assistant manager Peter Atherton said: “He’s a good player and he’s only been with us since Thursday, so he’s shown us glimpses of what he can do. The longer he’s with us, hopefully he can improve us.

“We’ve got as good as a full squad [available] now, with one or two injured players just making their way back.

“In terms of the squad, it’s strong, but on Saturday we were just disappointed with the level of performance.

“We started the game quite bright, but when you concede that manner of a first goal it’s going to be a knock to our confidence and you could see that.”
