LIAM Conroy and Mike McGoldrick are set to benefit from their vocal travelling support when they box at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse tonight.

Barrow’s professional boxers are usually backed by a strong following whenever they are in action and with two competing on the card tonight, the light-heavyweight duo are likely to have some extra support.

Conroy is making his return after eight months out due to injury and McGoldrick is fighting in his third professional bout, with strong ticket sales giving plenty of encouragement.

“I’ve sold a lot of ringside tickets for this one, so hopefully I’ll be able to hear the Barrow crowd roaring me to the ring,” said McGoldrick.

“It should be really good and I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s always good boxing in front of your friends, and when you’re in there with all the adrenaline going and you’re trying to keep a cool head, one thing you can definitely hear is the noise of the crowd when you land a good punch or when you start putting pressure on.”

The Victoria Warehouse has proved a happy hunting ground for fellow Barrovians Ross Cooksey and Callum Pearson in the past, although this is the first time fighting there for Conroy and McGoldrick.

And having watched previous bouts there, McGoldrick cannot wait to be in the ring.

“I’ve watched Ross Cooksey and Callum Pearson both box at the Victoria Warehouse before and I remember thinking to myself it’s somewhere I’d like to box,” said McGoldrick.

“The venue is really well set out, it’s really good and I’m really happy to be down there boxing now.

“It’s not too far to travel, and lots of people are staying over and going out afterwards, so it makes it really good for the supporters to come down and have a night out as well.”
