WINS for Jack Arnold and Ray Gardner kept British Legion top of the snooker standings in the latest round of Barrow Friday League matches.

The visitors were 2-1 victors over Roose Cons, and had Arnold’s 71-36 win over Lee Majors and Ray Gardner’s 85-19 triumph against stand-in Peter Roberts to thanks for their win.

Roose captain Dave Kewley kept his good run of wins going though, pulling one game back for his side by beating Mike Smith 63-32.

The biggest winners of the night on the snooker table were British Legion A, who defeated Navy B 3-0. Dave Simpson, John Tyreman and Billy Burns were their victors.

Last season’s play-off winners Barrow Football Supporters Club have their eye on top spot too after overcoming Vickerstown CC 2-1. Steve Redpath and Jimmy Christie secured the win, while Jimmy Allen replied for the Cricketers.

It was Vickerstown who enjoyed the best win of the night at billiards though, seeing off BFSC 3-0 thanks to captain Gareth Willis, David Holmes and Peter Scott sealing the whitewash.

Allan Edmondson and Kevin Quinn secured a 2-1 win for reigning billiards champions Legion over Roose Cons, with Ray Cooney getting one back for the home side.

Steve Hetherington led from the start to put Legion A on course for a 2-1 win, followed by Paul Fieldhouse wrapping up the victory. Top man Paul Kyle got a consolation win for Navy.

Brian Tucker (100), Jimmy Allen, Bob Crosthwaite, Josh Francis and Scott all starred for Vickerstown as they went top of the darts standings with a 5-2 win over BFSC. Mike Fletcher (180, 140) and Steve Martin won for the hosts.

Legion A had the edge over Navy B to win 4-3, with Mala McCoy sealing the win in the last match. Navy’s Ian Goodwin was the star of the night though with 140, 2x100 and a 130 knock-up.

It was a close one between Legion and Roose as well, with the latter prevailing 4-3 thanks to wins from Rob and Terry Chissim, Mike Irving and Bob Taylor.

Legion A lead the welch don standings despite being held to a 5-5 draw at home to Navy B. A 2-1 win for Dave Macmillan and Mala McCoy tied the match.

Roose were 6-3 winners over Legion and are now level on points with them in the standings.

BFSC narrowly got the better of Vickerstown 5-4 thanks to 2-0 wins for Ron Davies and Dave Griffiths, and Denis Plant and Steve Martin.
