JEFF Moses was proud of Barrow ABC’s trio of Development Championship finalists after they had to settle for the runners-up spots in Banbury last Sunday.

Ethan Holt, Paul O’Reilly and James Braithwaite all made the long trip south, which included an overnight stay, but were just edged out on the day.

However, Barrow head coach Moses took heart from his boxers’ performances on the day and throughout the tournament.

“When they didn’t get the results they were a little bit fed up, but I told them what they were forgetting is it’s not just a club show or a dinner do,” said Moses.

“They’re in the top two for the whole of England, so the quality has got to be good otherwise they wouldn’t have been there.

“All of the lads they fought have come through four or five bouts on the run to get they’re, so they’re not daft.

“None of the lads are too disappointed. We’re all back, we’re all happy and we’re all out again next week.”

Holt was beaten by Dale Youth’s Alan Corcoran in the 52kg Junior Class A final after being kept at range by his opponent, before enjoying a strong final round.

O’Reilly faced Army boxer Carnell Brown in the 81k Senior Class B final and did not look out of place against a clever opponent, who was given a unanimous verdict by the judges.

Braithwaite was rocked early in the first round, but recovered his composure to put in a strong showing over the last two rounds against Repton ABC’s Arnold Obadai, only to lose out on a split decision.

Moses also thanked sponsors Joe Murphy Flooring, Ocean Construction and Robert Boyce for helping fund the trip to the finals and their overnight accommodation.
