SOUTH Lakes came away empty-handed from their latest North Women’s League Division Two North West match at home to University of Liverpool.

Although South Lakes had a good start, they struggled to get the ball in the back of the net and it was Liverpool who scored the first goal of the match from open play.

With seconds to go to half time, Liverpool managed to score their second goal making it 2-0 when the whistle sounded for the interval

South Lakes started the second half far better, enjoying most of the possession, and were soon back in the match with their first goal after a great run by Emma Armstrong.

She carried the ball into the D and was fouled, meaning that Lakes were given a short corner. The ball was fired out to Holly Nuttall who played the ball to Pam Robertson, who in turn switched the ball back to Nuttall for her to score.

Lakes continued to hold their own and were denied a few more attempts on goal.

But with only minutes to go, the Liverpool students managed to score their third goal after being awarded another short corner.

The result means South Lakes are still placed eighth in the league with a game in hand over the sides above them.

They have a double-header this weekend. First up is a trip to Longridge on Saturday, followed by Northern at home on Sunday.
