On the back of their most successful season to date, Ulverston-based Furness Phantoms held their annual awards night last Saturday at sponsors The Mill.

The Phantoms reached the play-off stages in Division Two of the BAFA National Leagues this year, after winning four and losing four of their regular-season matches in NFC2 Central.

Their run was eventually ended by the Aberdeen Roughnecks in the North quarter finals, but it was still a campaign their roster can look back on with pride.

None more so than Brad Pearce, who was named as the season’s Most Valuable Person (MVP), while there were a couple of men who walked away with two awards.

Madigan Long took both the Shaun Hannigan Clubman of the Year and Lineman trophies and Mark Turner came top of the standings in the Man of Steel and Offensive MVP awards.

The best rookie awards went to Dan Marshall and Alex Galbraith in the Offensive and Defensive categories, respectively.

Kris Raybould was named as the team’s Most Improved Player, while there was the chance to reflect on the lighter side of the campaign, with Dave Oakley claiming the ‘honour’ of the Dog Poo award, which is given for the funniest mistake made.

The Phantoms are now planning for the 2019 season and are have ‘rookie days’ planned in Millom and Barrow for early December and Ulverston in January.
