League leaders Legion suffered a setback in the fourth round of matches in the Barrow Friday League last week, as they lost 2-1 to the Barrow Football Supporters Club in snooker.

Adam Cook got the first point of the night with a 41-27 win over Ray Gardner.

Legion’s captain was then able to pull a game back against Jimmy Christie but only just, a re-spotted black going Alf Carruthers’ way.

The person of the night belonged to Steve Redpath, who came back from the death after needing two snookers to win 60-57 against Mike Smith, who had earlier shot a good 26 break in the game.

British Legion A had the best snooker result of the night, taking all three home points against Vickerstown Cricket Club.

Captain John Tyerman took the top man’s game against Paul Fitzpatrick 56-15, backed up with good wins for Dave Simpson and Billy Burns over Peter Scott and Brian Tucker, respectively, who both also kept their opponents’ scores down in the teens.

Roose Cons’ fortunes turned for the better against Navy B winning two of their games, Dave Kewley taking the opening game against top man Joe O’Leary, winning 66-36.

The second game was a much tighter affair, with Lee Majors winning a black ball game against Dave Wilkie.

The Navy club pulled one back with Andy Charnley having a clear-cut win against Nick Wilkes.

In billiards, last year’s league winners, the British Legion, were back to winning ways after they came away with a 3-0 away win against Barrow Football Supporters Club,

Allan Edmondson started the whitewash by beating Jimmy Wilson 100-54, with Colin Taylor taking the second match 100-84 over Denis Plant and Kevin Quinn having a late-night 100-64 win against Stuart Culbert.

British legion ‘A’ keep their good run going with a 2-1 home win against the Vickerstown.

Tony Macmillan defeated Peter Scott 100-88 and Paul Fieldhouse won comfortably 100-60 against Jimmy Allen.

David Holmes took the only point for the Cricketers with a 100-85 win over Steve Hetherington.

There was a welcome three points for the Navy B, which put them at the top of the league table.

Paul Kyle took the first game against Peter Roberts followed by birthday boy John Clamp winning a very tight game against Ray Cooney100-92.

Ian Large made it 3-0 in an entertaining game against Rob Chissim, eventually winning 100-87.
