PAUL Crarey has revealed Barrow Raiders are open to trying to make Arnaud Bartes’ move permanent, although added it will likely depend on the prop’s commitments back in France.

Bartes was one of the Catalans Dragons trio who moved to the Raiders on loan in July and has become something of a cult hero among the club’s supporters with his all-action playing style.

He is due to return to France now the Betfred Championship season is over, but Barrow head coach Crarey said they will speak to him about the possibility of returning for 2019.

“Arnaud Bartes is an absolute warrior and he’s turned out to be a fans’ favourite,” said Crarey.

“I think we’re going to speak to Arnaud and we’d like him to come back, but he’s got a girlfriend at home and a business, but he’s enjoyed the experience with us.”

As it stands, last Sunday’s 34-6 defeat at Featherstone Rovers was the final outing for Bartes, Georgy Gambaro - who is under long-term contract with the Challenge Cup winners - and Toronto Wolfpack loanee Ryan Burroughs.

And Crarey hailed the impact those three and Saloty Mendy have had while on loan at Barrow.

“They’re all great kids, these players, and we’ve not had one bit of trouble with them,” said Crarey.

“The fans have taken to everybody and it was always going to be a battle, but I’m so proud we’ve come through it and got to the end of the season.”
