PAUL Crarey is eager for Barrow Raiders to end the season on a high when they head to Featherstone Rovers for the final game of the 2018 Betfred Championship campaign tomorrow.

The Raiders travel to Yorkshire buoyed by securing their first away win of the season last Sunday in a thrilling contest at Sheffield Eagles - a result which guarantees them finishing at least fifth in the Super Eights standings.

Hosts Featherstone will likely have an eye on the following weekend’s Championship Shield final at home to Leigh Centurions, but Barrow head coach Crarey knows the hosts will still pose a challenge.

“We’ll see when the whistle starts what sort of game it’s going to be, but we’re going to go there and try to win,” said Crarey.

“Featherstone are a different kettle of fish to most other part-time teams. They had a massive budget and they probably underachieved as a group, but they’re in the Shield final and might be smarting from not finishing in that top four.

“They’ll be looking to finish the season off well, but it depends how they approach it. We’ll be doing these best and so will these young players.”

Ryan Johnston and Matty While are both set for an opportunity to impress for Barrow, while Lewis Charnock could move to loose forward or hooker due to injuries.

But the Raiders were missing players and Sheffield last Sunday too and Crarey believes they are a match for anyone if they repeat that display in key areas.

“We put a lot of effort in last week, I thought we dominated the game and it would have been a travesty if we had got beaten,” said Crarey.

“We looked at how to improve our shape, but support runs and completion rates were up around 80 per cent, so it makes us competitive.

“We said all year once we get around those figures we can compete with anyone and we did that, even with some of our front-line players missing.”
