THERE was something for everyone on offer when Furness Gymnastics Club opened its doors for one of its week-long camps.
The club’s Hartington Street base saw young girls from beginners to experienced competitors descend to hone their skills with the coaches.
Attendees had the choice of joining a two-day, three-day or five-day camp, which included arts and crafts, and performing a dance routine for parents at the end of the week.
“We had about 60 kids for the week of mixed ability,” said Furness Gymnastics Club coach Lindsey Usher.
“There was stuff for complete beginners right through to advanced county and regional levels.
“The beginners worked on the fundamental skills which help them get to the harder moves. It’s like learning how to walk, because walking normally is not the right way to do it in gymnastics. It was also things like forward rolls and handstands.”
“They all worked really hard and they had so much fun. We had crafts in the week as well and they did a dance display at the end of the week, performing it to their families.”
Furness have several of their girls competing in the Cumbria Championships soon, while they will host another camp in the October half-term.
