READERS have shared their joy as it was revealed the new Cross-a-Moor Roundabout will open fully by the end of the month.

Councillor for Low and Mid Furness Ben Cooper took to social media to share the news.

He said: "They (National Highways) now need to close the A590 overnight (9pm to 6am) to complete the final surfacing works.

"The A590 will be closed between Lindal and the Daltongate traffic lights in Ulverston. A diversion route will be in place for all traffic.

"Access for residents will be maintained, however, there will be certain times when local diversion routes must be followed as it will not be safe to travel through the work area. The site team will be available to assist drivers during these times.”

Closures will be in place: May 24 and 25 (9pm - 6am), and June 6 and 11 (9pm - 6am).

From Friday May 27 the roundabout will be open to traffic.

Gill Mcphillips said: “I think they've done a good job. Don't think I've been stuck in traffic since it started, only when someone is turning right at Red Syke..”

Keith Simpson said: “I drive through it at least twice every day and I have never been delayed.”

Ash Howson said: “Hats off to the Highways Agency and the companies that have carried out the project, I use this road every day, at least twice and I’ve not encountered a single issue caused by the roadworks. Only issue has been drivers turning right when they shouldn’t be.”

Some readers still questioned the purpose of the roundabout, and the diversion routes put in place as work is carried out.

Ian Shaws said: “So it’s just a new roundabout? How long has it taken to build?”

Becka Boo said: “Coast Road for me. Or use the lanes from Ulverston to Dalton not a chance am going to Kendal and round that way. Waste of fuel, and prices are ridiculous at present.”
