VOLUNTEERS from Barrow's lifeboat crew were tasked to Walney Channel after two young boys were trapped by a fast-rising tide.

Barrow's RNLI crew launched their Vision of Tamworth lifeboat at 12.06pm yesterday after a member of the public reported seeing two young boys attempting to walk across the channel from Barrow to the north end of Walney.

The tide was rising quickly and the two boys, aged nine and 11, were in danger of becoming trapped by the water.

Upon arrival at the scene the two boys were found to have made their way safely back to the Barrow side of the Channel. The boys were then handed over to Furness Coastguard who by now were also at the scene.

The Coastguard team made sure the two boys were OK and gave them appropriate coastal safety advice.

The wind at the time was west north-westerly, force 3-4. Visibility was good and high water was at 2.04pm with a height of 8.9 metres.
