THE washed up remains of what is thought to be a seal were discovered on Walney beach this morning.
The body was described as being around five feet in length and black and white in colour.
Dog walker Michelle Tinker spotted the remains as she walked her dog near to Biggar Bank on the island at around 8.30am.
She said: "It was quite large, around three times the length of my dog, but it wasn't clear at first what it was.
"It was quite a surprise to see it there because of its size."
South Walney Nature Reserve is home to the only grey seal colony in Cumbria.
They can often be spotted on the beach.
