A LOCAL nursery is set to be demolished after no way could be found to protect it from flooding.
Last month it was revealed that Rascals day nursery in Ulverston was to close after 12 years.
New information seen by the Evening Mail indicates the building will be demolished in the new year as there is no solution to the risk of flooding.
Information about the demolition will be discussed by Ulverston Town Council next week.
The council will also hear a report prepared by the Environment Agency about the town's persistent problem with flooding.
In August, residents in south Ulverston, particularly in North Lonsdale Road, were just minutes from flooding.
In the space of an hour, Dragley Beck overflowed, causing water to surge towards houses. Fortunately the weather abated, and thanks to the work of local residents and councillors, widespread damage was averted.
Some of the questions the EA will answer include why south Ulverston is at risk of flooding; what the progress is on the flood prevention work at Town Beck; and an update on the study on flooding being made in south Ulverston.
Councillor Mark Wilson, the mayor of Ulverston, is glad residents of the town would finally get "robust" answers to their questions.
He said: "We wish to present these facts from the people who are in charge of them."
The town council will meet at 7pm on Friday October 21, in the Supper Room of the Coronation Hall.
