PLAYERS and supporters of Swarthmoor FC and Kendal United turned out in force today for a memorial football tournament to remember a talented young goalkeeper and a popular coach.

Junior players from both clubs got involved in matches at Swarthmoor FC this afternoon to honour and remember Josh West and Neil Humble, and to raise money for charity and good causes.

Josh, who played for both clubs, died age 11 after suffering an asthma attack in April last year, just days before his 12th birthday.

The popular young lad had been a student of Ulverston Victoria High School.

Mr Humble, a much-respected Kendal United coach and a friend of the Wests, died suddenly at home aged 44 in November.

Both clubs wanted to celebrate the lives of Josh and Mr Humble through football, so the Kenmoor Cup day was organised.

At the event the young players from both teams unveiled a memorial bench for Josh. A stone feature next to the bench displays the words "Mark Up" - what Josh would shout down the pitch to his teammates.

Josh's parents, Lee West and Nicola Lancaster, his brother Billy, nine, and Mr Humble's wife, Becky Humble, said the bench and the event had been a great tribute to their loved ones.

Proceeds from the day will go to the Joshua West Foundation and Kendal United.
