A DEDICATED fundraiser has helped boost an Ulverston charity's coffers with a marathon effort inspired by her late father-in-law.
Staff at St Mary's Hospice in Ulverston have thanked Barbara Hodgson, from Barrow, for her fundraising efforts after she competed in this year's London Marathon.
Mrs Hodgson visited St Mary's to drop of a cheque for the £1,723 she raised. Crunching the numbers, that means each mile covered during the marathon was worth £66.
Mrs Hodgson, who's late father-in-law received care from St Mary's, said: "Having spent a short time in hospital, Robert spent his final days at the Hospice. During this difficult and emotional time, the care, devotion, respect and dignity shown to Robert by the staff, nurses and carers at the Hospice was faultless and helped the family beyond words."
A spokesman for St Mary's said the donation would allow them to provide 492 breakfasts at their inpatient unit.
They added: "Thank you, Barbara; without extra special people like you we couldn’t do what we do."
