Workers have thrown their weight behind a fundraising campaign that will raise money for a dearly loved charity.

The Ulverston branch of GlaxoSmithKline held a series of events during the third week of June to raise money for Save the Children, a charity that promotes children's rights, provides relief and helps support children in countries all over the world.

The company held a Great British Bake Off themed competition which was judged by Swarthmoor author Jan Henry, who writes cook books that are specifically tailored for people with medical conditions. The bake off was between members of the GSK leadership team and so the big bosses battled it out to see who's baking was top of the class.

GSK also held a fun run and a charity football match which were very well attended with Ulverston running club getting involved too. Samantha Ashley, a business support administrator, has worked closely with Fran Costello, organisational design lead, to set up the orange days. She said: "We have some really generous hearted people who work for the company and some great bakers! We have already raised £1405 for Save the Chidren and it is only Thursday, we have already beaten last year's total!"

The bake off included an American cheesecake, a carrot cake, brownies and a delicious looking chocolate cake. Jo Jones, GSK supply and logistics leader, was the baker behind one of the most chocolatey cakes, she said: "I never usually bake but we all make a special effort for orange week. My cake is studded with white chocolate buttons to make it look like a packet of tablets, to go with the pharmaceutical theme."
