A TOWN is gearing up to celebrate a major sporting event by installing a colourful new display.
Ambleside Together has launched an initiative to decorate the town with a number of painted bicycles to welcome the Tour of Britain - including British Olympic heroes Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish - to Ambleside next week.
The famous cycling event will pass through Ambleside on Monday as cyclists make their way from Carlisle to Kendal.

Andrew Hewitt, chairman of Ambleside Together, is delighted to do something special to mark the event.
He said: "This is going to be a massive event, much like the start of the Tour de France in Yorkshire in 2014, and we thought we'd follow suit by decorating the town in bikes."
Ambleside Together is a new organisation that strives to promote the Lakeland town by creating different events.
It has arranged for a giant screen to be placed in the grounds of the University of Cumbria on Rydal Road so that cycling fans can watch live coverage of the entire event.
