A TOP south Cumbria motorcyclist is making "slow progress" following a serious crash during a prestigious race in China.
Tom McHale suffered the heavy fall in the Macau Grand Prix on Friday last week and was admitted to intensive care.
The Grange rider, who had recently recovered from a high-speed crash at the Ulster Grand Prix in August, came off on the notoriously fast Mandarin corner at the China venue.
A statement issued on his Facebook racing page said:
"Thank you to everyone who has been in touch - your messages are really appreciated.
"Tom is starting to make slow progress and hopefully it will not be too long until he is back in the UK."
Mr McHale, who is in his early 30s, works for IT Shaw Ltd plant hire in Ulverston.
Following his crash, friends have started a campaign to raise the money needed to rebuild his bike.
