FROM sheep shearing to stock judging, the skills of young people from a rural youth organisation were on display this weekend.
Some 1,500 were involved in the Southern District Field Day for Cumbria Young Farmers at Whicham Hall Farm, in the Whicham Valley yesterday (Saturday).
Young Farmers, is an organisation for 10 to 26-year-olds, which involves many activities, such as public speaking, sports, fundraising and competitions.
The Field Day saw 10 clubs, including Broughton, Furness, Lowick and Cartmel, competing over 120 classes.
The event was hosted by Broughton Young Farmers and the Field Day chairman was the club's Ian Butterfield.
The competitors contested events such as tractor handling, stock judging cookery, tug of war, and the grand finale obstacle course, designed and built by dairy Stephen Fell, of Bootle, who appeared on the Ninja Warrior TV show.
Mr Butterfield thanked all those who made the event possible, from the land owners, to Broughton Young Farmers and all the clubs involved.
He said: "It's a fun day and a good get together."
