A TODDLER from Barrow has featured in a supermarket giant's advertising campaign which aims to encourage healthy eating.

In July, Tesco launched a campaign to offer a free piece of fresh fruit to children who were shopping in store with their parents.

The initiative, which is available in over 800 Tesco stores across the UK, including Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Millom and Barrow, is aimed at creating healthy eating habits among kids that will stay with them as they grow up, and to make it easier for children to get the fruit and vegetables they need.

In response to the number of pictures posted on Twitter and Facebook of yoiungsters taking advantage of the freebies, Tesco collected the snaps and contacted a handful of parents to ask if their photos could be used in a national advertising campaign.

Barrow toddler Abigail Robertson, who is 23-months-old, is a huge lover of fresh fruit and was one of those who were chosen to appear in the advert after a picture of her helping herself to a free banana in the Tesco Extra store at Cornerhouse Retail Park was posted online.

The advert has so far appeared on social media, and a Facebook post on Tesco's page has been more than 5,000 times and liked by 58,000 people.
