A WOMAN has been pronounced dead after police were called to a property in Barrow.
At 2.52pm on Monday, police responded to a report of the concern for welfare for a 42-year-old woman living in Goldsmith Street, Barrow.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Furness General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
During the day, members of the public saw several police vehicles outside the property, as well as a paramedic's car, and a crime scene investigation unit.
Two uniformed officers were also present, standing outside the front door of the house.
Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace of Barrow CID confirmed the woman's death early this evening.
He said her death was being investigated, and the circumstances surrounding it are being treated as "unexplained."
Specially trained officers are with the woman's family, who are being kept updated.
