LARGE cannabis plants have been dug up by police after they were discovered growing outdoors in a residential area of Barrow.
The plants were dug up this morning by PCSO Phil Sullivan after they were spotted by a member of the public.
They are understood to have grown in a grassy area close to Flass Lane near the Tesco Metro supermarket.
The plants will now be destroyed and police have revealed they believe the plants have been deliberately grown.
A spokeswoman said: "The plants were spotted by a member of the public and they will now be safely destroyed.
"The incident is being investigated and is being treated as intentional.
"Anyone with any information regarding this incident, or who may have seen anything suspicious in the Roose area is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Police posted a picture on Twitter with the caption: "A spot of gardening for Phil. If you're the green fingered person who grew these you’ve won 1st prize. call 101 to collect it. #greenfingers"

Guerilla growing (growing weed in the ‘wild’) is quite popular – costs are low and it can be done almost anywhere. The south of England is better, but plenty of fine weed has been grown outside in the north of England, Scotland and even Wales.
The outdoor grower typically grows from April/May to October in the northern hemisphere. Outdoor growers often germinate the seeds indoors and give their plants a headstart by growing them indoors under lights for a few weeks.
These plants are often gradually acclimatised to outdoor temperatures before being permanently planted outside as established plants in time for the summer.
It's also possible to start growing cannabis outdoors in the beginning of April, the first weeks under a piece of glass or in a greenhouse.
The yield per female plant is between 100 and 400 grams for the different strains. Most of the plants have yields in between. Yields are especially dependent on sowing time, nutrition, and sunlight.
