A 'quirky' restaurant has been revealed as one of the best in the Lake District, according to Tripadvisor reviews.

Grasmere, a popular village and lake in the centre of the Lake District, is famous for its literary history and scenic fells, with bistros, cafes, and pubs to dive into after working up an appetite.

One restaurant, within reach of several B&Bs, has earned a reputation as one of the 'best restaurants in the whole Lake District'.

The Jumble Room, which is in its 28th year, is a 'small colourful little restaurant' delivering food 'prepared with love and served with pride', according to its Tripadvisor page.

It's located on Langdale Road in Grasmere, close to several accommodation options.

Main menu dishes include slow-cooked Lebanese baharat lamb stew, Dithoise chicken, and butternut squash and roast vegetable curry.

Tripadvisor reviews say it is one of the best restaurants they have been to, stating the food, presentation, atmosphere and service were 'top-notch'.

"This restaurant ranks among the best three restaurants I have eaten at in the last 20 years in England," one review said.

"On arrival, we were greeted by a warm and knowledgeable team with a hint of humour. The place is decorated with taste and spirit, you can tell that the restaurant is more than a business, the owners have poured their heart and soul into it."

They said the food was 'worth every penny' and the 'quality of food, from starter to dessert, was amazing'.

One review said: "It’s a really quirky place, with old children’s books/annuals and bric-a-brac dotted around. It had such a lovely atmosphere."

The diner, who has coeliac disease, said she 'felt so welcome' at the restaurant.

"It was outstanding. I can honestly say this was one of the best meals out I’ve had in a very long time and the whole experience was exceptional. Highly recommended."

Another said: "One of the best restaurants in the whole Lake District. Visited again this year and it remains as amazing as ever."

One customer said The Jumble Room is a 'great choice when you want great food without a Lakes Michelin star set menu'.

Another said: "This is definitely the best restaurant in Grasmere and probably in the whole of the Lake District. We visit Grasmere at least twice a year but have never been to the Jumble Room until now."
