Furness Abbey is preparing to mark its 900th anniversary with a major refurbishment of its visitor centre and museum.
English Heritage has announced the upgrade will be completed in 2027 to coincide with the anniversary of the abbey’s founding in 1127.
Katie Gill, site manager at English Heritage, said: "Next year will be a particularly special year for the abbey as we mark the 900th anniversary of its foundation in 1127.
"It will also see the completion of a major refurbishment of the visitor centre and museum, helping to ensure that the abbey’s story can be shared with visitors for generations to come."
Furness Abbey was once the largest and wealthiest monastery in north-west England.
More than 1,300 visitors attended the event, which featured medieval-themed activities and demonstrations.
Ms Gill said: "We had a wonderful time at the annual Medieval Fair at Furness Abbey, kindly organised by the Furness Abbey Fellowship, welcoming more than 1,300 visitors."
