A historic lifeboat that has become a staple of The Dock Museum for more than three decades departed this week for six months.
The Herbert Leigh lifeboat was the longest serving lifeboat at the Barrow RNLI station from 1951 to 1982 and was donated to The Dock Museum in 1990.
On September 8, the iconic vessel was transported from its home so that conversation work can be carried out.
A spokesperson from The Dock Museum said: "It’s on the move to be conserved with our friends at the Windermere Jetty Museum and will be back in six months."
The Herbert Leigh was donated by her namesake in 1951 and went on to be launched 136 times, saving 71 lives in the process.
Responding to the announcement by The Dock Museum, the RNLI commented: "Thank you for taking such good care of this lifesaver."
